Why You Should Replace Your Wood Fence

Why You Should Replace Your Wood Fence

Your wood fence is likely a huge part of the unique charm of your home – it may even be the reason you fell in love with the property.

Your wood fence is likely a huge part of the unique charm of your home – it may even be the reason you fell in love with the property. The bottom line, however, is that wood doesn’t last forever. It will eventually succumb to rot and weather and it will become unsafe. When it is time to replace your wood fence, you should consider replacing it with different fencing materials.

Long-Lasting Durability

Wood is strong and durable, but it doesn’t last forever and its lifespan is sharply finished when you don’t keep up with the maintenance. Other fencing materials, like iron, vinyl, and aluminum, are much more durable and will stand up to years of weather and use. Replacing a fence is expensive, so make sure you’re investing in a material that will hold up over the years.

Bug Resistance

Wood fences are prone to insect issues, especially termites. Termites eat wood, so whenever you have a wooden fence you risk attracting a termite infestation. This infestation could also spread to your home if you’re not careful. Consider replacing your wooden fence with another material that is big resistant, such as vinyl or aluminum, and you won’t have that problem.

Fire Safety

Wood fences are flammable since they’re made of wood, so switching to a fireproof material will improve the safety of your whole property. If your fence were to catch fire, from a neighbor’s fire or from a wildfire, a wooden fence could draw the blaze right to your home. Iron, aluminum, and even vinyl don’t have this issue at all, as none of them will burn.

Curb Appeal

If your current fence is run down, it is hurting the curb appeal of your home (and your home value). Replacing the fence with any material will improve this, but when you replace it with wood again, your adding. Additional labor for the next owner. If you replace with an ultra low maintenance material, like aluminum, you could increase buyer interest even more. Ultimately, if it is the look of the wood fence that is tying you to the material, consider that many alternative materials can mimic the look perfectly, without the hassle and work.
