Switch Up Your Design
Many homeowners use chain link fences because they are classic, affordable, and very durable. Chain link fences are also very easy for children or pets to climb, so they aren’t the best choice for anyone trying to keep a dog inside of the yard. If you are looking for a dog-proof fence, look for solid fences or privacy fences. These fences are designed to be very tall and prevent dogs from jumping or climbing over the top. Solid privacy fences are slippery and hard to gain a foothold on, so they are a very safe and dog-proof option. As an additional benefit, a privacy fence will help your backyard to stay private and secluded.
Can’t Go Under It
Many traditional fences sit on top of the ground, so dogs can dig underneath and weasel their way out. While you can use cinder blocks and other things to block the bottom of your fence, it is no replacement for a new dog-proof fence. Use fence stakes along the line of your fence to firmly secure your chain link or wire fence to the ground. If you have a major digging problem that can’t be fixed easily, when you install a new dog-proof fence, have it placed beneath the ground so that digging won’t make a difference.
Can’t Go Over It
Is your dog a talented jumper? Add a lattice to the top of your fence to stop jumping or install a tall privacy fence that is simply too tall to scale.
