Creative Ways to Upcycle Wood from Your Old Fence

Creative Ways to Up-Cycle Wood from Your Old Fence

After you tear down your old wooden fence and replace it with a new one, you’ll have a choice to make: what should you do with the leftover wood?

Using reclaimed wood to build your fence is a really great idea. After you tear down your old wooden fence and replace it with a new one, you’ll have a choice to make: what should you do with the leftover wood? Luckily, there are some creative ways to put them to new uses instead of just throwing them in the garbage.

Assemble a Planter

The first thing you can try doing is to build a planter. This way, you can keep using your wood even if you can longer use it for your fence. Think about the types of plants and flowers you want to start planting because mulching season is almost here. Plus, when you get a brand new fence installed, you can take some time to make it more beautiful than before by adding some living things around it. Making a planter is just building a box, but if you want to show off, you can add fence pickets. This has the effect of making your planter look like it has its own fence.

Make a Compost Bin

If you’re going to be doing a lot of gardening once spring returns, then you will want a compost bin. Building a compost bin from the wood taken out of your old fence is an affordable and eco-friendly way to do it. The only difference between the compost bin and the planter is that the compost box is open on the bottom. This can help keep your yard looking neat, even though you don’t always need a bin. It just depends on what you intend to compost so that your yard doesn’t generate complaints from the neighbors!

Build a Birdhouse

One final suggestion is to build a birdhouse. Use wood from your old fence to welcome back your feathery friends who will soon be flying north again as winter ends and spring arrives again. Plus, this allows birds another place to rest and start building their next nest. And if you’re interested in birdwatching, it will give you an incredible opportunity to do so!
