Spring is on its way, and summer will follow. Going for a swim is the perfect way to cool off on a hot day. In order to keep your pool safe, a fence is essential.
Your pool fence should be no less than five feet high. Check the laws in your county to make sure you’re following all height and other requirements. A tall fence helps to keep curious children and animals out of the pool without supervision. Chain link fences aren’t good for pools because they are easy to climb. The bottom of the fence should be close enough to the ground so that no one can crawl under it, no more than four inches.
What Materials Do You Need?
Many homeowners choose wood or vinyl for their pool fence, but these materials aren’t really recommended. The moisture from being so close to a pool can affect these materials and cause problems. Ornamental iron is the way to go for a secure pool fence.
Adding a gate to your pool fence will make it much easier to access. When you’re not using the pool, the gates should remain securely locked. Gate latches should be out of children’s reach. The gate should also have a mechanism so that it will close itself behind you. This way, no one can forget to close it, and everyone will stay much safer.
Adding an alarm to the gate and fence by your pool is another valuable layer of protection. It will activate whenever it detects motion by the pool or when the gate is opened. Be sure to set the alarm every time you’re finished in the pool.
